These five foods are credited with promoting men’s health and reducing the risk of developing prostate problems, including prostate cancer.
The prostate is a small gland, about the size of a walnut, that helps make sperm.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with around 50,000 men diagnosed with the condition each year.
However, there are many other health problems that can start in the prostate, such as an enlarged prostate.
Diet can play an important role in supporting prostate health.
There are no foods that can “cure” prostate cancer (or any cancer for that matter), but there are many foods that are associated with better overall health and a healthier prostate.
Here are the five foods you should eat for a healthy prostate.
1 – Tomatoes Tomatoes contain a powerful antioxidant called lycopene, which some studies suggest may reduce the risk of prostate cancer; However, more studies are needed.
Lycopene is believed to reduce cell damage.
Lycopene is easier for your body to absorb from cooked tomatoes than from raw tomatoes, so tomato paste, sauce, sun-dried tomatoes, and tomato juice are the best sources of lycopene.
2- Broccoli Broccoli is truly a superfood because of its many health benefits.
This green leafy vegetable is high in sulforaphane, a compound that has been linked to a reduced risk of prostate cancer and is also a heart-healthy vegetable.
3- Green tea Green tea is often praised as a healthy hot drink, in addition to the usual tea and coffee.
This delicious drink contains compounds such as xanthine derivatives, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), and epicatechin that are believed to boost your overall health and immune system.
4 – Pears and other fruits According to research, only 12 percent of men eat enough fiber per day and only a third of men eat all five servings of the recommended daily fruits and vegetables.
Pears are high in fiber that has been linked to a reduced risk of prostate problems.
Nutritionist Rob Hobson has teamed up with British Apples and Pears to advocate for the health benefits of this seasonal fruit.
Rob Hobson said: “Pears are a healthy and tasty snack and there are so many ways to spice up your sweet and savory recipes by adding pears.
Try eating oats rich in zinc, a man’s essential mineral, with sliced pear and cinnamon for breakfast.
“You may also want to add these ingredients along with soy milk to make a cholesterol-lowering smoothie. If you’re looking for something tasty.”
5- Pomegranate This red fruit is another excellent source of antioxidants, which help your body prevent cell damage.
Studies in animals and in test-tube settings have shown promising results for pomegranate juice that stops the production of prostate cancer cells, but more studies in humans are needed.
