In winter and cold weather, many prefer to eat hot soup. Some may be tempted to choose instant soups made with fatty creams or high amounts of sodium, but nutritionists recommend better options that can help you lose weight and reap multiple health benefits while feeling full and warm at the same time.
The healthiest soups for weight loss are those that contain “ingredients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals,” says Dr. Courtney D’Anglo, nutritionist and author of GoWellness. Chicken with vegetables, according to Al Arabiya.
“Chicken vegetable soup is delicious, healthy, and filling,” says Dr. D’Anglo, noting that it’s important to choose ingredients from vegetables in the soup because the big prize is to take advantage of ingredients like cabbage, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, celery, and zucchini.
And while there are countless varieties of chicken vegetable soup, Dr. Danglu recommends including these three ingredients in particular:
dr. Dangelo explains that including cabbage as one of the main vegetables in the soup is due to its content of important nutrients, including “beta-carotene, vitamin C and fiber, all of which can aid weight loss.”
In addition to cabbage, she suggests adding broccoli, “which is packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin K, and vitamin B9 (folate).”
Broccoli also has the ability to reduce inflammation in the body, according to the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition, and eating broccoli helps reduce the C-reactive protein in the blood, which is an important marker of inflammation.
By adding chicken, Dr. D’Anglo, the body gets the protein it needs, which is “key to a weight loss diet because protein foods take more work to digest, leading to increased calorie burn.”
dr. Danglou concludes by saying that if you want to add more fiber to the soup, you can add a scoop of rice to keep you feeling full for longer.
