To avoid “winter obesity” .. watch out for these foods

For many people, cold weather and less time to walk outside is a necessary reason to arrive in winter.

Paula Dobrich, a public health specialist, says some foods should be avoided in the winter to reduce the percentage of weight gain at this time, such as:


“While a single piece here or there is unlikely to make you gain weight, eating too many of these candies will show symptoms over time,” says Dobrich.

“In general, as we approach the colder months, people tend to crave more comfort foods like macaroni and cheese,” says the nutritionist.

“With reduced physical activity during the winter months, it’s not surprising that you can expect to shed a few pounds,” she says.

Cookies and pastries

“Most cookies are made from refined flour and sugar, both of which raise blood sugar levels, which in turn leads to an increase in insulin, a fat-storing hormone,” explains science professor Elise Harlow.

“Soup is a great winter food and is usually a great way to add more veggies to your diet, but you can increase your waist circumference if you keep choosing varieties made with heavy cream,” explains Dobrich.

“Try to choose a light vegetable-based soup to avoid unwanted weight gain,” recommends Dubrich.

Baked Potato Pancakes

French fries are a major contributor to weight gain in winter if you eat them all month long.

“Try to reduce your intake of these foods and choose healthier options like oven-baked potatoes,” says Dobrich.
